I began the North Island College Fine Arts Program to overcome technical blocks in my drawings. Over the years I have exceeded the improvement I had envisioned at the beginning, and feel I have only scratched the surface of a larger learning.
My Fine Arts explorations have been combined with education in Geography and Anthropology, and I have been exploring the transfer of geographical ideas into my visual vocabulary. Conceptually I am investigating a balance of social and global awareness, learning from studying human patterns in relation to their natural surroundings. Harnessing the learning of ancient and contemporary human ingenuity provides ideas and inspirations for my artwork. I find motivation with my expanding knowledge of social circumstances being explored through drawing, painting and ceramics.
The Fine Arts Program has given me the ability to observe light and shadow, explore the use of colour in concept clarification, broaden my abilities to convey a statement through various media, and expand my visual language and skill base. My infinite love of nature and humans through their many changes and movements is a continuing source of inspiration and subject matter. I am looking to explore more in the future.
